Find a Host Family

You’ve read all the important information and are sure that you want to become an Au Pair in the USA? Then it is time to find a Host Family. Below you can see a step-by-step guide that will help you become a part of the Au Pair experience. Let’s look into each step in detail.

1. Register on AuPair.com and create your profile

Register on the world-wide online matching platform AuPair.com and look trough the database of Host Families in America. There are tons of nice families, just add them to you hotlist or get in touch with them directly. As an Au Pair you can use the AuPair.com platform for free.

Fill in the information about you, add some pictures or even videos to make your profile look more personal. Add certificates and recommendations that prove your experience. Consider writing a Host Family letter to share your expectations and motivation in becoming an Au Pair with your future Host Family. This way you stand out among the other participants.

2. Search for a Host Family

Once you have created your profile, you can start searching for Host Families. AuPair.com gives you the opportunity to browse families that match your preferences. You can send free requests to Host Families of your choice. They will receive your application and can accept or deny your profile. Did you know? If you reach 100% in your activity level you can see which Host Families are Premium.

3. Video-interview

After shortlisting the most suitable families, it is really important to talk to them to get to know each other better. During the interview both parties will share their expectations and talk about all the important details. This way, you will be able to see which family suits you best. Keep the time zone in mind before scheduling your interview and make some notes with questions you would like to ask them during the call.

4. Sign the Au Pair contract and close other formalities

Once you have found a Host Family on AuPair.com, make sure you and the family contact the same local agency in order to sign the Au Pair contract and to apply for a visa! The Au Pair contract is a legal document that enforces the rules of the Au Pair Program which all participants have to follow at any time. It is important for everyone’s protection and helps to avoid any misunderstandings or problems during the stay. It also ensures that all sponsoring organizations follow the US Government rules.
